MSM FAQ
Question: Why do I need MSM?
Answer: Sulphur is found in over 150 different compounds within the human body. There are sulphur components in virtually every type of cell, so it’s extremely important. The importance of MSM as a supplemental source of sulphur has been overlooked. We can get this essential nutritional sulphur from some of our foods, but we lose most of this absolutely important mineral by heating, drying, and processing our food. Without the proper amount of sulphur or MSM in our system we cannot produce healthy cells.
Because MSM elasticizes the hold between the cells, MSM can restore flexibility to inflamed tissues. When our bodies grow older and are chronically shortchanged of key minerals like sulfur and MSM, the bonds between our cells become increasingly rigid and brittle–a condition that can lead to a loss in skin flexibility and contribute to skin wrinkles. The internal manifestations of this cellular brittleness are far less visible but have a far greater negative impact on the body. MSM’s ability to reintroduce flexibility into cell structures, therefore, can have widespread restorative effects.
Use of MSM has the following benefits:
- Detoxifies the body
- Allows better absorption of nutrients from food
- Increases circulation
- Reduces inflammation
- Makes hair and nails grow faster
- Relief from allergies through scavenging free radicals
- Reduces lactic acid build-up (less muscle soreness and cramping after exercise)
- Relieves chronic fatigue
- And SO much more!

Question: Is sulphur the same as sulpha drugs and sulphites? I’m allergic to sulphites. Does this mean I will be allergic to MSM?
Do not get confused between the two. MSM provides organic sulphur and is a nutrient. Sulpha-based drugs, also known as sulphonamides, do not occur naturally and are used as antibiotics.
The sulpha molecule is much larger and can cause severe reactions in some individuals. An estimated half-million people are sulphite sensitive in the US. Most often they are asthmatic adults and predominantly women. While many people are allergic to sulpha drugs, no similar reactions have ever been reported with MSM. A third sulphur-containing compound, known as sulphites, is a form of preservative that can cause allergic reactions in some individuals.
Do not confuse organic mineral sulphur from MSM with sulpha-based drugs, sulphites, or sulphates. Sulpha-based drugs (sulphonamide) are a group of large compounds known to cause allergic reactions.
These are drugs composed of many elements creating large chain molecules which are used as antibiotics. It is highly unlikely that anyone would be allergic to MSM or sulphur, a naturally occurring substance in the body.Sulphites are preservatives, antioxidants and browning agents used in foods. Ingestion of these is associated with adverse reactions such as asthma attacks, nausea, and diarrhoea.
There are six sulphating agents currently used: Sodium dioxide, sodium sulphite, sodium and potassium bisulphite, sodium and potassium metasulphite. Sulphates are a salt of sulphuric acid. Sulphuric Acid is a heavy, corrosive, oily acid used in making fertilizers, chemicals and petroleum products.
MSM does not contain sulphites, and should not cause a reaction in sulphite-sensitive individuals. The human body produces sulphites in its normal metabolism of sulphur-containing amino acids. Sulphite compounds have been used for more than three hundred years and are generally considered safe.
MSM is the natural source of biological sulphur and is rated as one of the least toxic substances in biology; toxicity rating similar to water, which is virtually nil.
Question: How much do I take?
Slowly increase your way up to 2 tsp daily – one tsp morning and repeat mid afternoon
Continue with 2 tsp daily for 2 weeks
*Additionally, enjoy a Detox bath with Miracle Bath Flakes – then drop back to ¼ tsp daily
Question: Why should I take your MSM vs. others?
Question: How Does MSM Work?
MSM blocks inflammations and inflammatory processes.
MSM enhances the activity of cortisol, a natural anti-inflammatory hormone produced in the body.
MSM improves the permeability of cell membranes. This improves the utilization of nutrients and the elimination of waste products.
MSM dilates blood vessels, enhancing the blood circulation. This also helps in the elimination of waste products from the body, which speeds up healing.
MSM is a muscle relaxant. This is an important and often overlooked benefit of MSM. Many chronic pains are aggravated by chronic muscle tension in the body.
MSM aids the natural defence mechanisms in the body by regulating the prostaglandin metabolism, and regulates the formation of antibodies and immune complexes.
