MSM FAQ

Question: Why do I need MSM?

Answer: Sulphur is found in over 150 different compounds within the human body. There are sulphur components in virtually every type of cell, so it’s extremely important. The importance of MSM as a supplemental source of sulphur has been overlooked. We can get this essential nutritional sulphur from some of our foods, but we lose most of this absolutely important mineral by heating, drying, and processing our food. Without the proper amount of sulphur or MSM in our system we cannot produce healthy cells.

Because MSM elasticizes the hold between the cells, MSM can restore flexibility to inflamed tissues. When our bodies grow older and are chronically shortchanged of key minerals like sulfur and MSM, the bonds between our cells become increasingly rigid and brittle–a condition that can lead to a loss in skin flexibility and contribute to skin wrinkles. The internal manifestations of this cellular brittleness are far less visible but have a far greater negative impact on the body. MSM’s ability to reintroduce flexibility into cell structures, therefore, can have widespread restorative effects.

Use of MSM has the following benefits:

  • Detoxifies the body
  • Allows better absorption of nutrients from food
  • Increases circulation
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Makes hair and nails grow faster
  • Relief from allergies through scavenging free radicals
  • Reduces lactic acid build-up (less muscle soreness and cramping after exercise)
  • Relieves chronic fatigue
  • And SO much more!

Question: Is sulphur the same as sulpha drugs and sulphites? I’m allergic to sulphites. Does this mean I will be allergic to MSM?

Do not get confused between the two. MSM provides organic sulphur and is a nutrient. Sulpha-based drugs, also known as sulphonamides, do not occur naturally and are used as antibiotics.

The sulpha molecule is much larger and can cause severe reactions in some individuals. An estimated half-million people are sulphite sensitive in the US. Most often they are asthmatic adults and predominantly women. While many people are allergic to sulpha drugs, no similar reactions have ever been reported with MSM. A third sulphur-containing compound, known as sulphites, is a form of preservative that can cause allergic reactions in some individuals.

Do not confuse organic mineral sulphur from MSM with sulpha-based drugs, sulphites, or sulphates. Sulpha-based drugs (sulphonamide) are a group of large compounds known to cause allergic reactions.

These are drugs composed of many elements creating large chain molecules which are used as antibiotics. It is highly unlikely that anyone would be allergic to MSM or sulphur, a naturally occurring substance in the body.Sulphites are preservatives, antioxidants and browning agents used in foods. Ingestion of these is associated with adverse reactions such as asthma attacks, nausea, and diarrhoea.

There are six sulphating agents currently used: Sodium dioxide, sodium sulphite, sodium and potassium bisulphite, sodium and potassium metasulphite. Sulphates are a salt of sulphuric acid. Sulphuric Acid is a heavy, corrosive, oily acid used in making fertilizers, chemicals and petroleum products.

MSM does not contain sulphites, and should not cause a reaction in sulphite-sensitive individuals. The human body produces sulphites in its normal metabolism of sulphur-containing amino acids. Sulphite compounds have been used for more than three hundred years and are generally considered safe.

MSM is the natural source of biological sulphur and is rated as one of the least toxic substances in biology; toxicity rating similar to water, which is virtually nil.

Question: How much do I take?

Answer:
Start with ¼ tsp in water morning and repeat mid afternoon
Slowly increase your way up to 2 tsp daily – one tsp morning and repeat mid afternoon
Continue with 2 tsp daily for 2 weeks
*Additionally, enjoy a Detox bath with Miracle Bath Flakes – then drop back to ¼ tsp daily

Question: Why should I take your MSM vs. others?

Answer:
Not All MSM is Equal – Consume Only the Purest Quality MSM

In creating MSM retail products, anti-caking agents are necessary for the production of capsules and pills. These additives and the process of pulverizing the sulphur crystals into powder, seriously interferes with the body’s uptake of the sulphur. Most commercially available MSM does not contain more than 34% sulphur, the sulphur it does contain, is often contaminated with additives.

Through observation and testing some MSM products contain no bio-available sulphur at all.Studies show that the silicon dioxide or silica used in prescription medications and nutraceutical products can block 100% the body’s uptake of sulphur.

Miracle Products MSM is sourced from Canada and the chemical assay reveals over 99% purity.

Question: How Does MSM Work?

Answer:
MSM is a natural analgesic; it blocks the transfer of pain impulses through nerve fibres.

MSM blocks inflammations and inflammatory processes.

MSM enhances the activity of cortisol, a natural anti-inflammatory hormone produced in the body.

MSM improves the permeability of cell membranes. This improves the utilization of nutrients and the elimination of waste products.

MSM dilates blood vessels, enhancing the blood circulation. This also helps in the elimination of waste products from the body, which speeds up healing.

MSM is a muscle relaxant. This is an important and often overlooked benefit of MSM. Many chronic pains are aggravated by chronic muscle tension in the body.

MSM aids the natural defence mechanisms in the body by regulating the prostaglandin metabolism, and regulates the formation of antibodies and immune complexes.

Question: Is there any research conducted by Doctors?

Answer:
In March 1999, Stanley W. Jacob, M.D., and Ronald M. Lawrence, M.D., Ph.D., published “The Miracle of MSM: The Natural Solution for Pain”. Their book was based on their experience as medical doctors and MSM researchers. Dr. Jacob is the head of the DMSO Pain Clinic in Portland, OR, and a Professor at the Oregon Health Sciences University, and Dr. Lawrence was the founder of the International Association for the Study of Pain and the American Association for the Study of Headaches.

Combined, they have over 20 years of experience with fighting pain with MSM. They concluded that of more than 18,000 patients that suffered from chronic pain, about 70% experienced benefits from the use of MSM, finding that pain either diminished or disappeared altogether.

Dr. Lawrence and Dr. Jacob’s compiled research reveals that MSM represents a safe and natural solution for chronic headaches, back pain, tendonitis, fibromyalgia, rheumatism, arthritis, athletic injuries, muscle spasms, asthma, and allergies.

Dr. Lawrence has also used MSM to improve the condition of patients who were virtually crippled with arthritis and back pain. One patient was able to get out of bed for the first time after just two weeks on MSM. And after two months of MSM use, he could walk to the grocery store.

Dr. David Blyweiss, of the Institute of Advanced Medicine in Lauderhill, Florida, found that many patients experience a 50 percent improvement in their arthritis symptoms, along with more energy, better sleep, and better capacity to exercise.

Numerous other MSM users have experienced results equivalent to cortisone but without dangerous side effects like immune suppression, fluid retention, and DNA disruption. According to Dr. Jacobs, there may be no pharmaceutical back pain therapy better or safer than MSM. “MSM has an important role to play in the nonsurgical treatment of back pain,” he said.

“I have seen several hundred patients for back pain secondary to osteoarthritis, disc degeneration, spinal misalignments, or accidents. For such pain related conditions, MSM is usually beneficial.” – Dr. Jacobs
