Firstly, free radicals are molecules that have one or more electrons too few or too many, and they will damage any biological molecule (flesh & tissue) they come in contact with. What made lipofullerene C60 a worldwide phenomenon was the now famous rat study led by Fathi Moussa and his team. What is so incredible about this study is that the actual reason for the experiment was to determine the lethal dose of C60. These scientists split the rats into 3 groups (a base-line group, control group and test group) and gave the test group C60 absorbed in olive oil. C60 is not water soluble but it is fat soluble, so they deduced that olive oil would be a suitable base. As opposed to finding any toxic level, let alone a lethal dose for the C60, they were shocked with the results.

They also discovered that the test group did not develop tumours while the base and control groups did. Many experiments have now been done on C60 that show its incredible healing potential and many who now believe it can do the same for humans as it did for rats.

It is not known how C60 greatly extends the life of mammals. Hypotheses vary from extremely effective antioxidant action to DNA-demethylation. The demethylation process is necessary for epigenetic reprogramming of genes and is also directly involved in many important disease mechanisms such as tumour progression. The DNA-demethylation theory fits the fullerene animal trials more closely as they exhibited permanent rejuvenation on the genetic-molecular level after consuming C60. After only two dozen doses of lipofullerene C60, there are reports of old mice acquiring the problem solving power and memory of young mice, and rats nearly doubling their expected lifespan.

It has been proposed that C60 becomes a semi-permanent component of the lipid bi-layer in the mitochondria. The science shows that when C60 fullerene enters the body it immediately starts disabling free radicals and other “reactive oxygen species” (ROS) that flood the body.
