Every night you progress through four sleep stages: NREM 1, 2 and 3 and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, which make up a single sleep cycle. What Is NREM?
While unique mental processes characterize each stage, they share a tendency for the sleeper to experience slowed breathing, muscle activity, heartbeat, and brain waves. NREM sleep is differentiated from rapid eye movement (REM) sleep.
NREM sleep is divided into three stages:
- N1 (Lightest sleep)
- N2 (Deeper sleep)
- N3 (Slow-wave sleep)
REM sleep is the fourth stage of sleep which occurs after passing through the first stages N1-N3.
Stage 1 (N1)
Stage 1 sleep is the lightest stage of sleep, and it typically lasts for only a few minutes. During this stage, you may experience a feeling of drifting in and out of consciousness. This stage is characterized by a slowing of brain activity, and it is easy to wake up from this stage of sleep. During stage 1 sleep, your brain produces alpha and theta waves, which are slower and more synchronized than the beta waves produced when you are awake.
Stage 2 (N2)
Stage 2 sleep is a deeper stage of sleep that lasts for approximately 20 minutes in the first cycle of sleep. During this stage, your brain produces sleep spindles, which are short bursts of brain wave activity that help you stay asleep and build memories, and K-complexes, which are sudden increases in brain activity that occur in response to stimuli. This stage is still considered light sleep, but it is harder to wake up from this stage than it is from stage 1.
Stage 3 (N3)
Stage 3 sleep is the deepest stage of sleep and is also known as slow-wave sleep (SWS). This stage is considered the holy grail of physical recovery. During this stage, your brain produces delta waves, which are even slower than the waves produced in the earlier stages of sleep. This stage typically lasts for around 30 minutes in the first cycle of sleep.
It is during this stage that your body repairs and regenerates tissues, strengthens the immune system, and restores energy. It is also during this stage that growth hormones are released.
REM Sleep
REM sleep is the fourth and final stage of sleep and is characterized by rapid eye movements. During this stage, your brain becomes very active, heart rate and breathing become irregular. It is during this stage that you have vivid dreams, and your body becomes temporarily paralyzed.
REM sleep has several important benefits, including memory consolidation, emotional regulation, and cognitive restoration. REM sleep typically occurs about 90 minutes after you fall asleep and lasts for approximately 10-20 minutes in the first cycle of sleep. As the night progresses, REM sleep periods become longer and more frequent, with the final REM period lasting up to an hour.

The Sleep-Wake Cycle
Your body relies on your sleep-wake cycle (circadian rhythm) to send information to the brain with regards to when to sleep and when to wake. Sleep, Fluoride & the Borax Connection
In the 1990s, a British scientist, Jennifer Luke, discovered that fluoride accumulates in the pineal gland. There is significant discussion of how fluoride destroys the ability of the pineal gland to function properly in this issue: Fluoride in Drinking Water: Scientific Review of EPA's Standards (2006), particularly in chapter 8, Effects on the Endocrine System. This book is a publication of the US National Research Council (NRC). Based on this and other evidence, the NRC has stated that “fluoride is likely to cause decreased melatonin production and to have other effects on normal pineal function, which in turn could contribute to a variety of effects in humans”. [7]
As a calcifying tissue that is exposed to high blood flow volume, the pineal gland is a major target for fluoride accumulation. In fact, the calcified parts of the pineal gland (hydroxyapatite crystals) contain the highest fluoride concentrations in the human body (up to 21,000 ppm F), higher than either bone or teeth. [8]
Fluoride has an affinity for calcium-rich and calcifying tissues, which is one reason its accumulation within the body - including the pineal gland - has attracted scientific and natural-health interest. Research has explored the relationship between fluoride exposure, calcification and normal pineal function, as discussed in the studies referenced above. The relationship between boron compounds and fluoride has been investigated in a number of studies, including research examining boron's effects in the presence of fluoride exposure. Borax Safety Profile
Borax, also known as sodium tetraborate, is a naturally occurring mineral compound composed of sodium, boron, oxygen and water. His published approach describes using small measured amounts of this concentrate rather than consuming undiluted borax. This protocol has also included different amounts depending upon the purpose for which it was being used.

Ingredients
- 500 mL coconut or regular milk
- 1-2 tsp Super AGC
- 2 tbsp honey
- ½ tsp Ceylon cinnamon

Method
Place all ingredients into a medium-sized saucepan over medium-low heat. Whisk constantly until milk is steaming hot but not boiling and is slightly frothy. You can also whisk with an electric, handheld milk frother.
